New Britain, CT (February 3, 2021) – On Tuesday morning, February 2, a man was killed in an apartment fire in New Britain.

According to officials, the fire broke out in an apartment fire on 85 Spring Street. At the time of the fire, 82 people were inside the apartment. Approximately 25 people were on the top floor of the building. Six people had to be rescued by fire crews.

Paramedics and numerous other responders were dispatched to the scene of the fire. One person was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident when they couldn’t be resuscitated by fire crews. Several others were injured.

It is believed that a lit cigarette may have led to the fire, though this is not fully known. The investigation into the fire continues.
