West Haven, CT (January 7, 2021) – Around 11:15 a.m. on Wednesday morning, January 6, a serious car crash involving a stolen vehicle led to injuries in West Haven.

The situation began when a driver reported a stolen vehicle. West Haven Police found the vehicle traveling off of I-95 but the driver did not stop when they tried to pull them over. The vehicle lost control and slammed into several vehicles at the intersection of Campbell Avenue and West Spring Street.

The driver of the vehicle fled the scene on foot but then found a nearby police cruiser and stole it. When he fled the scene, he struck several officers who were on foot.

Police were able to catch the driver when he drove through a fence at a local cemetery. The driver, as well as a passenger, were both arrested.

Two officers who were struck while on their feet were taken to the hospital with injuries but they are expected to be okay.

The investigation into the circumstances of the collision continues.
