Southington, CT (February 12, 2021) – Around 7:13 p.m. on Thursday night, February 11, a man was injured in a serious pedestrian accident in Southington.

According to police, the accident took place on West Street around the ESPN campus. The pedestrian was crossing the street when he was suddenly struck by a commercial van that did not see him in time. Police confirmed that the pedestrian was hit by the mirror of the vehicle.

Paramedics and numerous other responders were dispatched to the scene of the accident. The pedestrian, identified as Michael Atcheto, was taken to St. Francis Hospital with a severe head injury. His current condition is not yet known.

The driver of the van remained at the scene to cooperate with the police. The roadway was closed down in the area for some time.

No further details have been released but the investigation into the accident continues at this time.
