Fairfield, CT (February 18, 2021) – On Wednesday, February 17, a serious car accident involving a state vehicle took place on a Fairfield highway.

According to police, the accident took place on I-95 around the area of Exit 21. A Department of Motor Vehicles cruiser was headed south when it quickly slowed down due to traffic congestion in the area. A Honda CR-V was unable to stop in time and swerved, striking a Honda Accord Crosstour in another lane. The Crosstour spun out and struck the cruiser as a result.

Paramedics and numerous other local responders were dispatched to the scene. Several people were hospitalized including the 52-year-old male driver of the cruiser, a 15-year-old boy in the Crosstour, and a 52-year-old man inside the same vehicle.

Police confirmed that the 58-year-old driver of the CR-V was not injured but was found at fault for the collision. He was given an infraction for failing to keep in the proper lane of traffic.

The investigation into the circumstances of the collision continues.

Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families in hopes of a full recovery.
