Middlebury, CT (February 10, 2021) – Around 7:20 a.m. on Wednesday morning, February 10, a serious box truck accident was reported in Middlebury.

According to authorities, the accident happened on I-84 around the area of South Street. A Nissan Versa was traveling in the area when it suddenly struck the back of a box truck for reasons that are not yet known.

The box truck, owned by a company that builds caskets, ran across the highway following the forceful collision. It then struck a guardrail and a snowbank.

Paramedics and fire crews were dispatched to the scene. The driver of the truck, identified as 42-year-old Sirlawrence Jones, had to be freed from his vehicle. He was then transported to a local hospital.

The driver of the Versa, identified as 43-year-old Bernadette Bell, was also hospitalized but is expected to be okay. She was given a warning for her role in the accident.

Due to the severity of the crash, all westbound lanes of traffic were closed until the scene of the accident was cleared.
